Kochi: Mr P. Rajeev, CPM candidate in Ernakulam, has plunged headlong into the campaign with the party announcing its list of contestants leaving other parties way behind as they are yet to pick their nominees.
Before beginning the formal campaign, Mr Rajeev, former Rajya Sabha member, visited eminent personalities like M.K. Sanoo and Leelavathy teacher.
Prof. Sanoo, who warmly welcomed the candidate, said, “I am handing over Rajeev to the people of Ernakulam. He will be able to make a mark as a member of Parliament,” he said. Leelavathy teacher also wished him great success.
Mr Rajeev also attended various public functions on the first day of his campaign. The LDF district committee meeting, chaired by CPM district secretary C.N. Mohanan, urged the party workers, followers and organisations to campaign hard for the victory of the candidate.
The members of the grassroot committees are excited over the party’s decision to field Mr Rajeev and campaign materials like graffiti, posters and banners have already appeared in different parts of the constituency. Rajeev has wider acceptance in the area and his past achievements will help him attract more votes, it is felt.
The LDF election convention of Ernakulam constituency will be held at Ernakulam Town Hall on March 11 while that of Chalakudy, where sitting MP Innocent is contesting, will take place at Angamaly CSI auditorium on March 12.
The Assembly-level conventions will be held on March 13 and 14 while the local/panchayat-level conventions are slated for March 15 and 16. The election conventions in all booths in Ernakulam district will be completed by March 20.
