Chennai: The VK Sasikala faction of the AIADMK on Sunday dismissed the documents recovered by I-T investigators as “fake” and decried it as a move to “defame” the party and the government led by it. Party Presidium chairman,  A.Sengottaiyan also said the “false propaganda” is being done only because Opposition parties are sure of TTV Dhinakaran's victory in the RK Nagar by-election.

In a statement a day after documents revealed that AIADMK (Amma) had allegedly planned to distribute Rs 89 crore among voters, Mr Sengottaiyan said the “forged documents” have been circulated among media only to ensure that the party candidate does not emerge victorious in the by-poll.

“At a time when our Amma (J Jayalalithaa) is no more and the party is pulling all stops to retrieve Two Leaves symbol, a systematic campaign to defame the party and the government has been launched. Canards are being spread about the party,” the school education minister said.

He also said the “canards” are being spread because of the “tremendous support” that Mr Dhinakaran enjoys in the constituency. “We are duty-bound to inform the people that these documents are fake and forged. We also ask people of RK Nagar constituency not to believe such documents and statements,” Mr Sengottaiyan said in the statement.

Finance minister D. Jayakumar also described the documents as “fake” and accused Opposition parties of trying to bring disrepute to the AIADMK.
