Delta farmers express joy over Supreme Court verdict
Ranganathan also said that though SC gave six weeks o form the CMB, the Central government has not cared to do so.
Thanjavur: Cauvery Delta Farmers Welfare Association expressed gratitude on Supreme Court for giving a clear and specific order on Monday putting at rest all doubts in Cauvery issue.
“We hope that the Centre will take all steps to form the Cauvery Management Board and water regulatory committees before May 3, till when the court has given time for giving the plan by centre for implementing its order” said S.Ranganathan, secretary, Cauvery Delta Farmers Welfare Association on Monday.
Giving his reactions on SC’s order on Monday, he told DC that it is unfortunate that some political parties and leaders in Tamil Nadu have not been convinced that CMB will be formed even after the severe reprimanding of the Central government by Supreme court on Monday.
“But we (farmers) feel that our 37 years of efforts have come to an end. We also feel that 125-year-long Cauvery issue has come to an end. It is unfortunate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not spoken anything on the issue even after the SC gave its final order on February 16. Only Tamilisai Soundarajan, state president of BJP, was talking too much which led to some suspicion in the minds of the people. But Pon.Radhakrishnan, union minister, was hopeful, and confident that CMB will be formed,” Ranganathan said.
He also said that though SC gave six weeks o form the CMB, the Central government has not cared to do so. Now all of a sudden it cannot form the CMB and hence now three weeks available can be utilised to finalise the things.
