Those going against coalition dharma will face music: Dinesh Gundurao
We have assured Congress workers that we will fight the local body elections on our own.
Bengaluru: With challenges galore before the poll alliance of the coalition partners, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Dinesh Gundurao on Tuesday warned that Congressmen working against the “coalition dharma” would have to face consequences, but failed to specify when.
Participating in a Meet the Press programme of the Press Club of Bangalore and Bangalore Reporters' Guild here, he claimed the Congress and JD(S) alliance was working well on the ground, despite some problems.
“We have assured Congress workers that we will fight the local body elections on our own. Despite this, we need to sort out certain issues in a few places , but are confident of setting things right. Those working against the interest of the coalition partners will face serious action,” he said.
Asked if such action would be taken before or after polling, Mr Gundurao was evasive, merely saying it would be taken at the appropriate time.
“We are concentrating on winning the constituencies like Mandya, Mysuru and others. The party will take a call on when action should be taken,” he added.
On why the coalition was focusing so much on Mandya, when there was rebellion in Hassan and Tumakuru too, Mr Gundurao claimed the situation was more or less in control in these constituencies. “In Tumakuru, the problem is only in Madhugiri Assembly segment. And in Hassan, 80 per cent of the problem has been resolved. We will deal with the rest too,” he said.
Interestingly, Mr Gundu Rao conceded that while Congress president, Rahul Gandhi would become Prime Minister if the party came to power at the Centre, the post could go to someone else if a coalition government took centre-stage instead.
