Hyderabad: Tension gripped areas near the HICC in Gachibowli where the GST Council meeting was going on as many CPI leaders and acti-vists tried to barge into the premises raising slogans against GST. The police rushed to the spot and took the leaders and activists into custody. The CPI activists asked the Centre and state governments to roll-back thes GST as it had become a burden on commoners. Displaying placards and raising slogans aga-inst GST, Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister K. Chan-drasekhar Rao, the CPI leaders and activists tried to bre-ak the police cordon and enter HICC premises. Police took CPI leader K. Narayana into custody. Mr Narayana said, “GST was introduced not to help commoners but multinationals, big companies and industrialists. If the Centre and state governments are sincere on GST they should implement a single tax slab like in other countries. What purpose will the GST serve when there are five tax slabs? This multiple slabs defeat the very purpose of GST, that is one nation-one tax.” Mr Narayana accused the CM for blindly supporting the PM on all issues including GST. Under the guise of GST the common man is being fleeced, he said. He asked the State and Central governments to rollback GST, and warned that otherwise the CPI will intensify its movement against GST.
