Govt to honour unsung heroes of freedom struggle: Kishan Reddy

HYDERABAD: Union minister for tourism G. Kishan Reddy said that the Union government was stepping up efforts to give the unsung heroes of the Indian independence struggle their share of recognition.

“As part of Independence diamond jubilee celebrations, we are honouring the unsung heroes. We will highlight their stellar contributions during the freedom struggle, he explained.

He was speaking after visiting the residences of freedom fighter Vandemataram Ramchander Rao and Hyderabad liberation martyr Shoebulla Khan here on Saturday. He invited the family members for the Telangana Liberation Day celebrations on September 17, which will be attended by Union home minister Amit Shah.

Speaking to reporters, Kishan Reddy said that Ramchander Rao as a student of Osmania University had sought independence for the princely state of Hyderabad. He was suspended from Osmania University for that, he said.

Shoebulla Khan was murdered by Razakars for his editorials in the newspaper, the minister said. He felicitated the family members of Ramchander Rao and Khan on the occasion.
