DMK stages walkout over Jeyakodi transfer issue

Chennai: Opposition DMK staged a walkout from the Tamil Nadu Assembly after Speaker P Dhanapal disallowed its members from raising the transfer of senior IAS officer V K Jeyakodi as Vigilance Commissioner.
After the Question Hour, Opposition Leader M K Stalin raised the issue of transfer of Jeyakodi, who was overseeing the probe into Gutkha scam in which Health Minister C Vijayabhaskar and senior police officials are alleged to have been involved.
At this, Speaker P Dhanapal told Stalin that he cannot raise an issue which is pending in the country. However, Stalin continued with his speech and when Speaker objected again, he led his party to stage a walkout.

CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami informed that his State government will take steps to engage a senior advocate to argue the case in the Supreme Court.
Without going into details, the CM said steps would be taken to protect the livelihood of workers. He was responding to the issue raised by the DMK’s Thangam Thennarasu in the Assembly on Wednesday.
