Bengaluru: The state Cabinet on Thursday approved a new railway line covering the Chikkamagaluru-Beluru- Sakaleshapur-Hassan route.

Speaking to reporters here after the Cabinet meeting, Cooperation Minister, Bandeppa Kashempur explained that while there was an existing line passing through Chikkamgaluru, Beluru and Hassan, the government had now decided to divert it by building a line from  Sakaleshpura to Beluru at an estimated cost of Rs. 657.8 crore. Both the state and Centre would each bear 50 per cent of the cost.

The Cabinet also decided to relax the transfer guidelines for primary and secondary education teachers by amending a few clauses of the existing law.

"Now teachers will be able to seek transfer if they have served in a particular school for three years and not five years as presently required. They can also seek transfers on medical grounds," Mr. Kashempur said while explaining the cabinet decisions.
