BRS Party Leaders Resign Ahead of No-Confidence Voting Drama in Mancherial
Political upheaval as key figures step down in strategic moves.
Adilabad: Mancherial municipal chairman Penta Rajaiah and vice-chairman Gajula Mukesh Goud of the BRS party resigned from their posts on Wednesday, a day before the no-confidence motion moved by the Congress party came up for voting in the civic body.
Penta Rajaiah submitted his resignation to district collector Badawath Santosh. Meanwhile, BRS councillors moved a no-confidence motion against Bellampalli chairperson Jakkula Swetha who recently joined the Congress.
Congress councillors moved a no-confidence motion against Naspur chairman E Prabhakar and vice-chairman Thota Sreenu of the BRS.
The resignations came when Congress leaders expressed their full confidence in ousting them from their positions with support from a majority of the ward councillors.
The Congress ward councillors of Mancherial and Naspur went on a pilgrimage. They visited Medaram, Vemulawada and other religious places. They were divided into two groups and kept in separate camps.
Their resignations came when officials and political parties were reading their plan to take up the no-confidence motion in Mancherial, Bellampalli and Naspur municipalities.
Municipal chairman Penta Rajaiah and vice-chairman Gajula Mukesh Goud resigned from their posts.
The stage had been set for the no-confidence motion against the municipal chairman of Mancherial on January 11 and Bellampalli, Naspur on January 12.
Ward councillors who were shifted to camps in Hyderabad and other places may return and attend the no-confidence motion.
In Bellampalli, BRS ward councillors moved a no-confidence motion against the chairperson who recently joined the Congress while Congress ward councillors moved a no-confidence motion against the BRS chairman of Mancherial and Naspur municipalities.
Mancherial MLA Kokkirala Premsagar Rao expressed confidence in winning both the no-confidence motions moved against the BRS chairman and vice-chairman in Naspur and Mancherial municipalities.
