Bengaluru: Again, the Election Commission seems to have picked the wrong dates to hold Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka, which normally sees poor voter turnout during crucial elections.
The low voter participation is attributed to fixing poll dates during weekends or closer to general holidays, allowing the electorate, especially those from Bengaluru, to leave the town and go on vacation.
This time, the first phase is scheduled for April 18 and the second for April 23. The first phase poll date is wedged between two holidays with April 17 being Mahaveer Jayanti and April 19 the Good Friday. April 23 is a Tuesday, and if employees take leave on Monday, they will get an extended weekend.
