Thiruvananthapuram: Finance Minister Dr Thomas Isaac on Wednesday said the LDF would be able to secure a significant victory even if it manages to hold on to its support base in the coming Lok Sabha polls.

Mr. Isaac said the BJP-led NDA is likely to cut into UDF votes in some of the constituencies. The trend is being witnessed in Kottayam where P.C. Thomas might secure a sizeable chunk of UDF votes and this would benefit LDF candidate V.N. Vasavan.

He said a similar situation prevailed in Pathanamthitta constituency.  "BJP is going to collect a good amount of UDF votes. LDF victory looks sure in a tight three-cornered contest in the constituency," he said.

"I am a sitting MLA from Alappuzha where the LDF is all set for an hands-on victory,'' he said.

He said the ground reality in southern parts of the state was very different from what the surveys are predicting. There are certain basic contradictions in the surveys that have been conducted so far.

"People cutting across differences agree that the government has implemented a series of public welfare measures. I don't want to speak much about the doctored surveys. They are very biased and do not reflect the ground reality," he said.

Mr. Isaac said there was generally a feel good factor about the government's performance. The projects undertaken by KIIFB are visible everywhere. Similarly, social security measures have also gone down well with the people. "I am sure this will be reflecting in people's mandate," he said.
