DMK sacks three district secretaries

In Coimbatore and Namakkal, the party won all but one seat in the Assembly elections. In Tirunelveli, the DMK won just a few seats.

Chennai: A day after the AIADMK revamped its organisation, the DMK on Friday swung into action and removed three district secretaries who failed to produce good results in the Assembly elections.

The district secretaries who were removed included M. Veeragopal (Coimbatore urban north), former Union minister S. Gandhiselvan (Namakkal East) and P.K. Durairaj (Tirunelveli West). M. Muthusamy had been nominated as the district secretary for Coimbatore urban (North) and Par. Ilangovan would be the district secretary of Namakkal (East) and Siva. Padmanabhan would be the district secretary of Tirunelveli (West), party general secretary K. Anbazhagan said, in a statement here.

In Coimbatore and Namakkal, the party won all but one seat in the Assembly elections. In Tirunelveli, the DMK won just a few seats. Besides, the party lost two seats by narrow margins. The DMK will further make changes in the organisation to strengthen itself before the local body elections.

The DMK also announced that its MLAs to be held on June 15 would be presided over by party chief M. Karunanidhi. Party treasurer M.K. Stalin, who had been elected as the floor leader and attend the Assembly as leader of Opposition would attend the meeting.
