Vijayawada: The executive officer (EO) of the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Devasthanam (SDMSD) has reportedly put in a transfer request. The interference of local TD leaders in the day-to-day affairs of the EO is said to have become intolerable to her.

The Government appointed A. Suryakumari, an IAS officer of the 2008 batch, to the post of EO of the SDMSD in order to cleanse the SDMSD administration in Indrakeeladri.

She is the first IAS officer to occupy the post, and has been instrumental in introducing and implementing administrative reforms at the temple.

However, since her appointment, a group of TD leaders and their followers have been trying to create hindrances in the functioning of the SDMSD.

Sources revealed that corrupt temple officials have formed a group and are lobbying against her. Irked by their actions, the EO has reportedly put in a request for transfer from the Durga temple.

When asked about Ms Suryakumari’s request for transfer, a senior bureaucrat in the Secretariat said that there was no proposal to transfer the EO.

“She is supporting the cause of devotees and has taken up several good initiatives,” he said.
