THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran  will comment on the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau raid on former excise minister K. Babu after discussions at the Political Affairs Committee on September 24. Depending on the decision being taken at the PAC meeting, the Congress  will take a clear  stand on the issue, he told reporters at the KPCC office here.

Mr Sudheeran had been keeping a discreet silence over the  Babu issue so far giving rise to criticisms in the party. Even in the UDF meeting on Tuesday, he was  firm that he would react only  later despite the prodding by  Muslim League leader P. K. Kunhalikutty.  “Since the topic is serious, the party will announce its  opinion after the PAC meeting. I have apprised the KPCC of my stand,”  said Mr Sudheeran.

He added that the UDF meeting was informed of the preliminary details based on the Vigilance probe against Babu.  The committee will scrutinise the matter  at the PAC meeting  at the KPCC office. He also said  that those saying that the liquor policy had not benefited anyone were trying to sabotage the UDF’s liquor policy.

“The only way to make changes in the policy is to conduct a referendum among the people,” he  added.   The LDF government had failed to get the maximum punishment for Govindachamy in the Soumya murder case, he said and asked the government  to effectively present the case before the  Supreme Court.
