Kalaburagi: Former Minister and senior BJP leader Revunaik Belamagi has accused his rivals in the party of hatching a conspiracy to kill  him and remove him from the race for a ticket to contest the coming assembly polls in the state.

Mr Belamagi and his supporters have claimed that his  recent car accident was actually  an attempt on his life.

Mr Belamagi suffered serious injuries, including fractured ribs when his SUV  turned turtle after hitting a culvert in May this year and had to be hospitalised for over a month. But his driver escaped unhurt as he allegedly jumped off  the vehicle before it hit the culvert.

While the BJP leader was not suspicious to begin with , a police team, which visited the spot of the accident, grew suspicious about likely foul play as  the driver appeared to have been speeding despite the bad condition of the road.

Later  the driver  disappeared, making things even more suspicious, according to Mr Belamagi.

“As the road was in a bad shape, the vehicle should not have been driven at such breakneck speed. I don’t want to point an accusing finger at anyone, but I strongly believe this attempt was made on my life to remove me from the race for the Assembly ticket,” he said.

A four-time MLA, Mr Belamagi is a serious contender for the Assembly ticket from the Gulbarga Rural reserved constituency. Although the party wants to field him for the Lok Sabha seat, he himself is keen on the  Assembly seat.
