KPCC election: Complex list does the rounds
There are 141 block committees from where 282 members will be included in the governing council of the KPCC.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The KPCC governing council list submitted to the central election committee chairman Mullapally Ramachandran contains several names that do not belong to the same block committee, it is alleged. Mr Mullapally had issued a circular on August 24 stating that PCC delegates elected from the block has to be a member from the block concerned. There are 141 block committees from where 282 members will be included in the governing council of the KPCC. There are several discrepancies in the district-wise list submitted by the two groups to the AICC’s returning officer to the state, Sudarshan Nachiappan, as alleged by a section of leaders.
A KPCC secretary told DC that there are currently nine vacancies from Thiruvananthapuram. These include the two caused by the death of former speaker G. Karthikeyan and Kerala Sport Council president C. Mohanachandran.
“A 28-member list was submitted from Thiruvananthapuram district alone to Nachiappan who gave it to Mullapally Ramachandran. Communal equations have not been considered as the number of representations from Ezhava community is negligible,” said the KPCC secretary.
He alleged that former Nemom block president Pappanamcode Sreeni, who is bedridden, has not been removed from the list. However, senior party leaders Vakkom Purushothaman and Thalekunnil Basheer are not in the list. Other vacancies are that of N. Peethambara Kurup (president, Guruvayur Devaswom Board), Neyyatinkara Sanal (Thiruvananthapuram DCC president) and K. Mohan Kumar (member, Kerala State Human Rights Commission).
Another ‘A’ group leader alleged that the name of Jawahar Balajana Vedi chairman G. V. Hari, who originally belongs to Nemom in Thiruvananthapuram, has been included in the list from Kasargod. “How can opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala say ‘No’ to NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair as leaders like Hari come with the community leader’s recommendation? Many have been relocated to other districts causing difficulties to the local leaders there,” said the leader.
