Sitting MLAs get tickets in TD, YSRC
The YSRC had finalised candidates for all seats, except Gudur Assembly, Nellore and Tirupati Lok Sabha constituencies.
Nellore: The Lok Sabha polls are just a month away but the major political parties have not yet completed finalising their candidates for both the Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies in SPSR Nellore district.
Though all the political parties, including the BJP and Jana Sena, would field their candidates mostly in all segments, the main fight is between the TD and YSRC.
The YSRC had finalised candidates for all seats, except Gudur Assembly, Nellore and Tirupati Lok Sabha constituencies. The candidates, who had been selected, had already completed one round of campaign.
In the TD, confusion is still prevailing with respect to Sullurpet and Udayagiri Assembly seats, apart from Nellore and Tirupati Lok Sabha seats.
Sources in YSRC said the party is likely to field a business man from Ongole, Mannem Madusudhan Rao for Tirupati Parliamentary seat and former MP of Tirupati, V. Vara Prasad Rao is being considered for Gudur Assembly seat, which is part of Tirupati Parliamentary constituency.
A senior TD leader said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is still trying to choose candidates for the Udayagiri and Sullurpeta segments as well as Tirupati and Nellore Parliamentary seats.
The names of sitting member, Bollineni Rama Rao, Additional Secretary (GAD) at Amaravati, Maddineni Ashok Babu and a contractor Kavya Krishna Reddy have been doing rounds for the Udayagiri Assembly seat.
From Sullurpeta, former legislators of the segment, Nelavala Subrahmanyam and Parasa Ratnam are vying for the seat.
With respect to the Tirupati LS seat, a TD leader said their top brass is in favour of a woman candidate, a popular figure in politics, having roots in the segment. Negotiations are on.
The party is likely to consider the name of former legislator Katamreddy Vishnu-vardhan Reddy for Nellore LS seat and this will be decided after finalising candidates for all the Assembly seats.
The YSRC had nominated all the sitting candidates for the Assembly segments and the TD is also following suit, except in case of Udayagiri where the party is looking for an alternative to the sitting member, Bollineni Rama Rao.
