Chennai: With beautification works in progress, Tambaram railway station will get a revamp with new toilets, an elevated pathway and wide roads.

According to an official, the stairway on the eastern side of Tambaram has already been painted in a kaleidoscopic manner in February, apart from the ongoing work of widening of the entrance.

Also, the stairway was bifurcated to make it easier for people entering and exiting from the eastern side. “The pathway from Madras Christian College to station was very congested. The road widening work is going on. A new toilet will come up too. Commuters will be able to see the changes in some time,” said an official.
In order to improve the aesthetic appearance of surroundings, stairs were painted in a colourful manner at Tambaram.

Similar work will be carried out at Arakkonam, Chengalpettu, Thiruvallur and Perambur, the official added.  Commuters said that toilets should have electricity supply and proper water supply.

“Officials should also look into having escalators and lifts on platforms where south-bound trains stop as aged people, particularly, find it inconvenient to lug their belongings and move to EMU trains,” said V. Rama Rao of Traffic and Transportation Forum.

Apart from the beautification work, food courts are under construction at Tambaram on west and east sides.
