Thiruvananthapuram:  The BJP central leadership has asked actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi, MP, to spearhead the party’s campaign in Thiruvananthapuram for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.  Suresh Gopi, who  was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in December last year, has done his bit to bring aid to certain sections of people under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme.  He gifted a school bus  to the differently-abled students of Cotton Hill LP School here and contributed four GE-Giraffe infant warmer bed units to the paediatric cardiac surgery division of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology.  He has also proposed to bring in a central project in his home town in Kollam district.

“Suresh Gopi has entrusted a family member, Rajan Nair, to implement it,” said a top BJP leader.  Meanwhile, a major section of the state BJP leadership is against projecting Suresh Gopi as the Lok Sabha candidate from Thiruvananthapuram as he is not in the good books of  NSS leadership Suresh Gopi and Richard Hay, the second Rajya Sabha MP from the state representing the Anglo-Indian community, have  adopted Kalliyoor and Vengannur grama panchayats respectively in Thiruvananthapuram district under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana aimed at  rural development.
