Hyderabad: The Congress  will hold dharnas on Wednesday before all substations across Telangana state, seeking 24-hour power supply.

"The BRS is trying to water down the satyagraha by the Congress to highlight the undemocratic way in which Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha membership was suspended. Hence it is making attempts to divert attention from it," said TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy, speaking to Deccan Chronicle from the USA where he is on a visit.

"The Congress is to hold satyagraha deekshas before Mahatma Gandhi statues against the Modi government’s undemocratic attitude, but the BRS is trying to deflect attention from the event. Recently, at the Khammam meeting, Rahul Gandhi had said that the BRS had become the B team of BJP. Post the appointment of Kishan Reddy, this relation has solidified. This is being done after it has become clear that the Congress is all set to win elections and form a government," Revanth Reddy said.

The Farmers Declaration announced by Rahul Gandhi in Warangal has percolated down to the people and has sent a shiver down the spine of the BRS. The BRS has failed to provide assured power for even 12 hours. The party cadre will set ablaze Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s effigy in front of the substations. It is the BRS government which drew power companies to a debt of Rs 60,000 crore and rendered them bankrupt, the PCC president and Malkajgiri MP said.

Reminding the people of the promises made as part of the Rythu Declaration, he said, “The Congress will waive loans of Rs 2 lakh, give a monetary help to farmers and also tenant farmers at Rs 15,000 and a cash transfer of Rs 12,000 under NREGA besides providing better MSP for paddy, cotton, chillie, sugarcane and turmeric crops.”

Elaborating further, he said, “All paddy produced will be purchased by the government to the last grain. Efforts will be made to open sugarcane factories. We will form a turmeric board and bring a crop insurance scheme for them. Rythu Bhima will be implemented for landless farmers, farm labourers and ownership given to the owners of podu lands and assigned lands. The Dharani portal will be abolished and a new title guarantee law on land passed. We will take stern action against fake seed companies and stop farmer suicides. Properties of people selling fake seeds will be seized.”

On the issue of irrigation projects,  the party has promised to complete the pending ones in time and form a farmer’s commission with powers to benefit them.

BRS leaders, who have lost the faith of farmers, are feeling shivers down their spine. Free power scheme is a hallmark of the Congress and nobody can question us on this score, he said in a statement.
