Anantapur: Telugu Desam leaders were caught in an embarrassing situation during a meeting on Rayalaseema over the ongoing Krishna waters dispute here on Saturday.

Several leaders hit out at the district leadership for its failure to protect party workers.

Tadipathri municipal chairman J.C. Prabhakar Reddy lashed out at the district leaders for ignoring party workers at the grassroot level. He blamed the two top leaders and charged that they were working as coverts for YSRC government instead of trying to strengthen the TD.

“I will reveal the names of leaders who are acting against the party in the district. I urge the party chief N Chandrababu Naidu to set right the situation by changing constituency-level leaders, who were ignoring the cadre”, Reddy said. He further added that though Anantapur district was a TD stronghold, they may lose seats if elections conducted now because of internal squabbles.

Reddy regretted that leaders from the district had not conducted any meeting with the cadre in the last two years, even as the cadre forms the party’s backbone.

Meanwhile, things got physical when cadre from the two groups pushed each other in the presence of TD politburo member Kalava Srinivasulu, and senior leaders Palle Raghunath Reddy and V.Prabhakar Chowdary.
