Vijayawada: Social welfare minister Merugu Nagarjuna said that the works pertaining to the casting of a 125-foot-tall statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar in Haryana and its erection in the Swaraj Maidan grounds in the city were going on at brisk pace.

The minister reviewed the progress of the work with the officials here on Thursday. He said that the removal of old buildings for the construction of new buildings around the upcoming statue of Ambedkar at Swaraj Maidan was going on and added that the work related to the construction of a 24-metre-tall tower to install the statue were also nearing completion.

He said that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was monitoring the progress of casting of the statue and its installation work regularly and giving suggestions on how to go about completing them as per schedule.

He sounded confident to inaugurate the statue on April 14, 2023 without any delay.
