Hyderabad: The terms of two Union ministers from AP — Nirmala Sitaraman (BJP) and Sujana Chowdary (TD) will end by June, and both are making efforts for renomination. While TD sources said there is no problem with Mr Chowdary’s renomination due to his close relations with Mr Naidu.

The TD chief has reportedly assured his renomination despite Mr Chowdary facing cases in courts. Ms Sitaraman was elected to the Upper House in the bypoll held to fill the two-year vacancy caused due to the death of former Chief Minister N. Janardhan Reddy, after her induction in the Union Cabinet in May 2014.

Whether she will be fielded again from AP or will she be sent to some state depends on the relation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Clarity on the issue may emerge after the two leaders meet in Delhi next week.
In case Ms Sitaraman is to be sent to the Upper House from the AP quota again, and Mr Chowdary’s renomination being a surety, Mr Naidu will be left with only one seat.

Meanwhile, Union Parliamentary affairs minister M. Venkaiah Naidu, who was elected from Karnataka for three successive terms, is likely to be fielded again from the same state or will be sent to some BJP-ruled states like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh or Rajasthan.
