VIJAYAWADA: Telugu Desam MP Kesineni Srinivas alias Nani has said Volunteers should work without indulging in any politics and that TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu has vowed to continue the Volunteer system if the party wins power.

The recent comments of Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan against the village and ward volunteer concept triggered a state-wide uproar, with the ruling YSRC leaders launching a broadside against him.

However, TD leaders are reacting very cautiously, realising well that any negative comments might prove counterproductive for the party. The Volunteer system is very popular across the state.

The TD MP, who has not been on good terms with Naidu these days, said there was nothing wrong with the village volunteer system. “Any system that works for the welfare of people is good, including this system,” he said.

“The volunteers should work for the people, not for political parties. Even in the past, we had the Janma Bhoomi committees. They too worked in a similar mechanism. Every system will have good and bad elements. If the system is running well, it has to be continued,” he added.
