Revanth apologises but Venkat Reddy firm on Addanki’s suspension
Hyderabad: Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy refused to accept the apology offered by PCC chief A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday and Addanki Dayakar for their utterances.
Being the party’s ‘star-campaigner’ Venkat Reddy demanded that Dayakar be suspended from the party if it wanted him in the party.
Even though last week’s public meeting at Chandur in Munugode constituency witnessed good turnout, the statements made by party leaders have widened the rift among party MPs and top leaders.
With Venkat Reddy deciding to stay away from campaigning in Munugode, the PCC chief on Saturday released a video clip expressing regret and offering ‘unconditional apology’ for comparing senior leaders like him with ‘home guards’.
Revanth also assured that the PCC’s disciplinary action committee would initiate action against Dayakar whose foul language triggered the rift. Responding to Revanth’s apology, Venkat Reddy welcomed the gesture and felt that he was ready to resign if it was for the greater good of the party. He maintained that even if he continued within the party he would not visit Munugode constituency.
To show his dissent, he changed his Twitter profile describing himself as one ‘serving as home guard of Congress Party’. The changes were soon removed.
Meanwhile, Dayakar also offered an apology. “I was served a show-cause notice and I responded with an explanation and a public apology,” he said in a video statement.
