HYDERABAD: The Congress governments in the past implemented sub plans for the SC and ST communities with intention of developing their lives. But the BRS government was driving a wedge between them and hoodwinking them with false promises, said senior party leader P. Balram Naik.

Speaking at the Adivasi convention here on Sunday, he said, “All Congress governments had strived for the development of Dalits and Adivasis. They should be given scope to contest in general constituencies also according to their percentage in population.”

The meeting was attended by Shivaji Rao Moge, chairman, Adivasi Congress, AICC.

“We will give prominence to tribals during seat allocations. We received massive support from them in Karnataka,” said Rohit Chowdhary, AICC general secretary.

The votes of Aalits and Adivasis play a critical role in determining the prospects of candidates in 79 Assembly constituencies in the state. Tribal candidates have won many general seats and in a spirit tribals should be given more seats and encouraged. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao is cheating them with false promises. The people are ready to teach him a lesson, said Dr Belliah Naik, chairman, TPCC Adivasi Congress.
