Nizamabad Congress expecting names of four candidates in first list
Nizamabad: The Congress party rank and file here is eagerly waiting for names of the party’s assembly poll candidates in undivided Nizamabad district. Of the nine assembly constituencies in the district, names of candidates for the Kamareddy and Bodhan will likely be included in the party’s first list, as there are only one each aspirant for these seats.
The national party has a strong base in composite Nizamabad district. There are those like former Leader of Opposition in the legislative council Mohammad Ali Shabbir and TPCC treasurer Sudarshan Reddy.
In the last assembly elections, the names of Congress candidates were declared late due to the party’s alliance with the Telugu Desam.
At present, a minimum of three to six leaders are expecting MLA tickets from each assembly constituency. They also applied for MLA tickets at the Gandhi Bhavan central office.
Notably, the ruling BRS party has already release the names of all 9 MLA candidates in the erstwhile Nizamabad district. All sitting MLAs except Kamareddy MLA Gampa Govardhan got a chance to re-enter the fray. Chief minister Chandrashekar Rao will contest from Kamareddy and Gajwel this time.
In Bodhan constituency, three-time MLA Sudarshan Reddy is readying to contest again. Party senior leader Karunakar Reddy has also applied for the Bodhan ticket, but party high command might favour Sudarshan Reddy, party sources say.
In Kamareddy constituency, Mohammad Shabbir is the lone aspirant from the Congress. He has been active in the constituency for around 30 years. This being a VIP constituency, the Congress may name the candidature of Shabbir Ali soon.
A Congress leader told Deccan Chronicle that around 70 names will be released in the first list of candidates. "We are hopeful that the names of around four candidates will be cleared in the first lot for undivided Nizamabad district," he said.
