Hyderabad: PCC chief spokesperson Dr Dasoju Sravan on Tuesday alleged that the TRS government was wasting over Rs 50 crore of public money to boost the image of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in the name of the World Telugu Conference. Speaking to mediapersons at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday, Dr Sravan questioned Mr Rao’s change of stand towards Telugu Talli.

He said that during the statehood movement, Mr Rao had ridiculed Telugu Talli and proposed demolition of statues.

“KCR openly insulted Telugu Talli on multiple occasions and had claimed that Telugu Talli had nothing to do with Telangana. He had asked why Telugu Talli was not getting tears when no water was being released to Telangana from the Nagarjunasagar left canal and why Telugu Talli was silent over suicide of 3,000 people for statehood,” Dr Sravan said.

He said Mr Rao should explain what made him change his views on Telugu Talli.

He said the TRS had objected to the conduct of the World Telugu Conference in 2012, but had now “fallen in love with Telugu Talli”. Is this is not KCR’s hypocrisy, he asked.

He asked what would be sung at the event — Maa Telugu Talli Ki Mallepu Danda or Jaye Jaya He Telangana.

Dr Sravan said Mr Rao was ignoring eminent poets and writers of Telangana state who had played a key role in statehood movement.

He said poets and writers including Gaddar, Vimalakka, Jaya Bheem, Tirumal Rao, Goreti Venkanna, Andeshri and others were even invited for the event.

He said Andeshri’s song Jaye Jaye He Telangana, which was supposed to have been considered as the Telangana state song, was ignored after he refused to praise Mr Rao at public meetings.
