MLA's stand on Jayalalithaa portrait irks Congress
TNCC chief: Her position contradicts party's stand.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee chief Su Thirunavukarasar on Tuesday warned of “strict action” against party MLA Vijayadharani for her stand on unveiling of J Jayalalithaa’s portrait in the Assembly that contradicted the official version of the party.
Thirunavukarasar said he has already sent a detailed report to AICC General Secretary in-charge of Tamil Nadu Mukul Wasnik and Congress President Rahul Gandhi on the “unwanted” comments by Vijayadharani.
While the Congress boycotted unveiling of Jayalalithaa’s portrait in the Assembly citing her conviction in disproportionate assets case, Vijayadharani welcomed the move and even met Speaker P Dhanapal congratulating him for the decision.
“What Vijayadharani did was completely in contradiction of the party’s official stand. She should not have spoken in the manner, which she did. I think she spoke out of turn, without bothering about consequences. Strict action will be taken against her,” Thirunavukarasar told reporters.
Vijayadharani had also challenged Thirunavukarasar to take action against her and said the party has nothing to do with her comments. Responding to the TNCC chief statement regarding action, the MLA said she was ready for any action.
