Chennai: Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol. Thirumavalavan and MDMK general secretary Vaiko have rejected as ‘baseless’ reports that they agreed to a proposal made by DMDK chief Vijayakanth that they snap ties with the Left and join him in forging a mega front including the BJP.

Launching the fourth phase of campaign of their People’s Welfare Alliance (PWA) in Chennai on Sunday, the two leaders rubbished the media reports that they had given the green signal to Vijayakanth’s efforts to form a mega alliance comprising the DMDK, MDMK, VCK, BJP, besides the NDA constituents IJK and New Justice Party.

The reports had said Vaiko and Thirumavalavan would quit the PWA to join the Vijayakanth-led alliance as they were under pressure to obtain EC recognition for their parties by winning the required number of seats and votes.

Their denials now could also be a hint to the DMDK leader that they would not join his front if he included the BJP in it.
