Telangana: Polling peaceful in teachers’ constituency MLC election
HYDERABAD: Approximately 90.40 per cent of polling was registered for the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar teachers’ constituency MLC election held on Monday. Polling went off peacefully with no untoward incident reported from any of the 137 polling stations spread over three undivided districts.
Around 29,720 voters were enrolled for this election. Counting for the election will be held on March 16 and the result would be declared the same day.
There are 21 candidates in the fray, including 16 independents.
However, the contest is mainly between Progressive Recognised Teachers Union-TS (PRTU-TS) candidate Gurram Chenna Keshav Reddy, who is backed by BRS, Congress-backed Gali Harshavardhan Reddy and A. Venkata Narayan Reddy backed by BJP. It is expected that incumbent teacher MLC Katepalli Janardhan Reddy, who is contesting as a PRTU rebel candidate and United Teachers Federation candidate P. Manik Reddy could give a tough fight.
