47,32,064 students in Andhra Pradesh to get Vidya Kanuka

VIJAYAWADA: The AP government is all set to distribute school kits along with Oxford English-Telugu dictionary and bilingual textbooks, at a cost of Rs731 crores to the exchequer, for 47,32,064 students across the state.
Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy will inaugurate the second tranche of the Jagananna Vidya Kanuka at the government high school, P Gannavaram, East-Godavari district on August 16.
Officials said government schools in the state are attracting more students this year because of their improved facilities. The CM believes that providing quality education to children is very important and all expenditure towards education is a capital investment towards their future. The CM brought revolutionary changes in the field of education, they said.
Aiming to transform every student into a global citizen, the state government is introducing CBSE along with English as medium of instructions from primary level. Telugu will be one of the compulsory subjects. Steps are being taken to make students write their 10th class exams with CBSE syllabus in a span of four years.
To help children, who were studying in Telugu medium till date, bilingual text books are being provided.
The Jagananna Vidya Kanuka started with the aim to ensure that the beginning of an academic year should not be a burden to parents. The government is providing school kit free of cost, and it consists of three pairs of uniform with their stitching charges, one pair of shoes, 2 pairs of socks, belt, school bag, textbooks, notebooks and workbooks to all students pursuing education in all government and aided schools from Classes 1 to 10.
During the year 2020-21, the government has distributed school kits to 42,34,322 students at a cost of Rs648 crore.
The government has spent Rs 29,114 crores in these two years under the schemes of Jagananna Ammavodi, Jagananna Vidya Deevena, Jagananna Vasathi Deevena, Jagananna Gorumudha, Jagananna Vidya Kanuka and the first phase of Manabadi Nadu-Nedu.
