HD Deve Gowda says grandson Prajwal Revanna can contest 2019 Lok Sabha poll
Prajwal Revanna himself, when contacted, said he would contest the LS poll from Hassan if asked to by Mr Deve Gowda.
Hassan: Janata Dal (S) supremo, H D Deve Gowda , who represents Hassan in parliament, appears to be preparing to hand over the mantle to his grandson, Prajwal Revanna. The octogenarian announced at a press conference here on Friday that Mr Prajwal could contest the 2019 Lok Sabha poll from Hassan "if no other party leader is keen on doing so."
Besides Hassan, Mr Gowda has represented Holenarsipur and Kanakapura in parliament in his five decade long political career. He reportedly offered former Arakalgudu MLA, A T Ramaswamy and other leaders the option of contesting the 2019 parliamentary poll from Hassan saying he was no longer willing to do so now that he was 84- years- old. But none of the leaders consulted showed any interest, according to sources.
Mr Prajwal Revanna had been tipped to contest the coming assembly poll from either Belur or Hunsur constituency, but had to back down in the face of strong opposition from a section of JD(S) leaders. More recently his name was doing the rounds for the party ticket for the RR Assembly constituency in Bengaluru.
" Prajwal's name did come up for Belur and Hunsur, but the decision to field him in either constituency will be mine," Mr Gowda asserted, when asked about the possibility of his grandson contesting the assembly poll from these constituencies.
Mr Prajwal Revanna himself, when contacted, said he would contest the LS poll from Hassan if asked to by Mr Deve Gowda. "It is my duty to work for the success of party and I am ready to shoulder any responsibility given to me by the party leaders," he declared.
Mr Prajwal Revanna is the latest member of the Gowda family to enter politics. His father, H D Revanna, entered politics in the 1980s and went on to become a Minister. His mother, Bhavani Revanna, became a Hassan Zilla Panchayat member over a year ago.
