Tamil Nadu to have capacity addition of 6,000 MW by 2022

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu’s ambitious programme to add 6,000 MW power is progressing and these projects would be ready by 2022-23, State Electricity Minister P. Thangamani has said.

These projects have been taken up anticipating the future power requirements of Tamil Nadu, and they would ensure uninterrupted power supply, the Minister said. “Though there has been some delay in some places due to litigation, we hope to complete all the projects for capacity addition by 2022 – 23 fiscal. By February – March next year we would have 800 MW project ready,” Mr. Thangamani said on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters in Salem after inaugurating government buildings, he said the government had already come out with an order enhancing compensation to farmers on whose farmlands the high-tension transmission towers are being established.

Also, efforts are on to install CCTV cameras in Tasmac outlets to ensure safety of TASMAC employees, Mr. Thangamani who holds the Prohibition portfolio, informed.
