A' group MLAs lobby in Delhi
However, the A' group's ploy is to wrest control of the KPCC and it is eying the PCC chief's post.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ‘A’ group legislators Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and K.C. Joseph and KPCC vice-president M.M. Hassan called on AICC general secretary in-charge of the state, Mukul Wasnik in New Delhi against the central leadership giving prominence to the ‘I’ group in DCC presidents’ selection. Tension has been brewing in the ‘A’ group ever since Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala’s ‘I’ camp walked away with eight DCC presidents in their kitty.
The three ‘A’ group leaders demanded that the revamping of KPCC be expedited and urged that the promise given by AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi to initiate the election has to be seriously considered. After the talks, Mr Hassan told reporters that they apprised the central leadership of former chief minister Oommen Chandy’s displeasure with the DCC list. “We demanded that organisational revamp has to be done at the earliest,” said Mr Hassan. Though the ‘A’ group leaders have expressed their displeasure before the AICC leadership, they are aware that the DCC president’s list is not going to be revoked. At the same time they don’t have that intention too.
However, the ‘A’ group’s ploy is to wrest control of the KPCC and it is eying the PCC chief’s post. Though the ‘A’ group’s main target is Mr Chennithala, they are also targeting KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran. “Now there is a situation where Mr Sudheeran is organising birth and death anniversaries as well as condolence meetings and nothing else. A PCC chief should not stoop to this level and just focus on commemorating such days alone,” a prominent Congress leader told DC on conditions of anonymity.
The date for next high power Political Affairs Committee meeting is yet to be decided. It is most likely to be crucial. Congress MLA’s had come to New Delhi to stage protest against the demonetisation of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 currency notes. They clubbed the meeting with AICC general secretary on to the already fixed itinerary.
