Hyderabad: Telangana State Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday allowed the body of P.V. Rajeswara Rao, former MP and son of former prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, inside Gandhi Bhavan and paid tributes. The party had not extended a similar courtesy to the body of Narasimha Rao who died on December 9, 2004.

Normally the Congress allows the bodies of the party leaders of high stature like former chief ministers and Union ministers and PCC presidents to be kept at the party headquarters for some time for leaders to pay tributes.

Though Rajeswara Rao was not active in the Telangana state Congress for long, Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy called the relatives of the former MP and asked them to bring the body to Gandhi Bhavan for paying homage.

After the body reached Gandhi Bhavan, Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy joined others to carry the pall inside Gandhi Bhavan.

When contacted by this newspaper, the late Narasimha Rao’s third son P.V. Prabhakara Rao said, “This gesture may have been extended to rectify the grave error and insult they did on my late father by preventing his body from entering the AICC headquarters 12 years ago.”
