VS Achuthanandan seeks action on BJP activists attacking CPM
The BJP lost in byelections to two wards in Kanjikode Mukroni areas recently
THIRUVANVANANTHAPURAM: Administrative Reforms Commission chairman V.S. Achuthanandan on Tuesday demanded strict action against the BJP-RSS criminal gangs which are allegedly unleashing attacks on the CPM workers in Palakkad district. In a statement here, the veteran leader said the attacks were being carried out mainly in Pudussery and Kanjikode areas. The BJP lost in byelections to two wards in Kanjikode Mukroni areas recently.
Apart from the defeat in the local body poll, about 20 families who were staunch BJP supporters had snapped all ties with the party and decided to work along with CPM. The BJP leadership has been jolted by the exodus of party workers. Mr Achuthanandan said to hide the embarrassment caused by mass desertions, the RSS and BJP workers had resorted to violence in the area and they were trying to terrorise the local people.
“Criminal gangs are barging into the houses of CPM workers, vandalising their property, burning vehicles, killing cattle and pets. The CPI and CPM district committee offices were recently attacked by these gangs. Petrol bombs were hurled at the offices damaging vehicles of the parties. Mr Achuthanandan asked the BJP leaders to rein in the criminal gangs and bring an end to the violence. He urged the state government and district administration to arrest the criminal gangs and prevent such violent attacks in the area.
