Belagavi: The controversy pertaining to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's lavish wrist watch allegedly costing Rs 70 lakh, is set to become a national issue soon as BJP leaders have decided to raise it in the Lok Sabha.

State BJP president Pralhad Joshi said in Belagavi that the issue of the CM’s watch will be raised in the Lok Sabha if Siddaramaiah failed to disclose who gifted it to him and what was its actual price soon. During his visit to Belagavi on Sunday, Mr Joshi said, the cost of the watch had been estimated at Rs 70 lakh already by several sources and was gifted to the CM from someone in a foreign nation. “The CM should produce the receipt of the watch to confirm its actual price in the market and clarify to the people who gifted him such a costly watch,”he said.

Mr Joshi said, he decided to raise the issue in the Lok Sabha demanding an thorough inquiry into how the CM got such a lavish watch and why it was gifted to him. Fearing public outrage, the CM hastily changed his watch, said Mr Joshi.

Congress leaders including AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi needlessly created a hue and cry about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's “costly suit” alleging that it was priced at Rs 10 lakh.
