HASSAN: Supporters of former minister B Shivaram threatened to quit various posts including in zilla panchayat and town municipal council, Belur in case their leader was denied the ticket, on Saturday.

The constituency was represented by Mr Rudresh Gowda who passed away a couple of weeks ago following prolonged illness. Mr Shivaram, one of the ticket aspirants, charged that district in-charge minister A Manju had scuttled his chances of securing the ticket.

At a meeting held in Belur, supporters of Mr Shivaram took Mr Manju to task on grounds that he was backing bereaved family members of Mr Rudresh Gowda. They alleged that the minister was playing the sympathy card and therefore doing his best to nix Mr Shivaram’s attempt to secure the ticket and ensure that Mr Rudresh Gowda’s widow Mrs Keerthana enters the fray. They threatened to organize a massive protest rally in Belur on Monday in case Mr Shivaram does not make it to the list of Congress candidates.
