Rural women outnumbered urban in voting
The turnout of women was the lowest in Hyderabad parliamentary seat with 42.12 per cent.
Hyderabad: Backward districts of Telangana have recorded highest women participation in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha polls. according to data from the Election Commission. Districts like Adilabad, Nizamabad Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar, Mahbubabad and Nagarkurnool saw the highest women percentage when compared to remaining areas in the state.
Surprisingly, the Khammam parliamentary constituency recorded a 74.70 per cent women participation which was highest in the state despite having higher number of tribals and scheduled caste voters.
In terms of women participation in the Lok Sabha elections, Khammam LS constituency is followed by Nalgonda with 73.51 per cent, Bhongir (73.48 per cent) Nizamabad (72.06 per cent), Adilabad (71.23 per cent), Medak (70.58 per cent), Karimnagar (70.38 per cent).

Out of over 1.86 crore votes polled in the state, women contributed 92.42 lakh votes, which is 62.55 per cent of the total 1.48 crore woman voters enrolled with the Election Commission. The elections had seen 93.73 lakh men exercising their voting right - this is 62.82 per cent of the total 1.49 crore men registered as electorate.
A low voting percentage was, however, observed in four urban parliamentary constituencies such as Hyderabad, Secunder-abad, Malkajgiri and Chevella. In Hyderabad 3,98,145 (47.21 per cent) female voters exercised their franchise and Secundera-bad observed 47.41 per cent.
Even though overall percentage of women voting was less in urban areas, Malkajgiri constituency — the largest populated in the couuntry - witnessing the highest women turnout in terms of absolute number at 7.37 lakh, followed by Chevella with 6.21 lakh women voters. However, when viewed in the light of the higher population of these constituencies in percentage, the women turnout in the two peripheral constituencies of twin cities pales into insignificance.
Meanwhile, the Medak LS constituency witnessed a 70.58 voting percentage of women, 69.59 per cent in Zaheerabad, 68.97 per cent in Mahabubabad, Peddapalli 65.44 per cent, 65.01 per cent in Mahabubnagar, 63.33 per cent in Warangal and 61.60 per cent in Nagarkurnool.
