Bengaluru: Congress state working president Dinesh Gundu Rao’s controversial tweet that not only a blouse but even bangles should be sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his poor handling of the J&K situation, has drawn sharp criticism from a section of BJP leaders likes Mysuru-Kodagu MP, Pratap Simha.

“J&K is burning...terror attacks every day. Pak attacks us with impunity. Even Myanmar doesn’t fear us...Will the BJP in Karnataka protest?” Rao had tweeted. “Not only blouse but even bangles need to be sent,” he had added in his tweet.

Condemning the remarks made by Gundu Rao, state BJP Yuva Morcha general secretary Thammesh Gowda said his tweet was disgraceful and an insult to womanhood. Reminding him that a woman is at the helm of affairs in his party (Congress) Gowda pointed out that his tweet in a way implies that women are weak and submissive.

MP Pratap Simha tried to remind Congress leaders, including CM Siddaramaiah, that they should try to inculcate a sense of culture in the party working president. To this, Gundu Rao gently replied that he was just reminding the BJP what Union Minister Smriti Irani had said about then PM Manmohan Singh that she would send ‘bangles’ to Singh after terrorists attacked the Indian Army in 2013. BJP Yuva Morcha Morcha units held protests in all district headquarters on Sunday against Rao’s comments on the PM.
