Kozhikode: Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) national president, G. Sanjeeva Reddy, on Sunday, called for a 'baton change' in Congress, considering the recent debacles the party suffered in assembly elections including Uttar Pradesh.

Mr Reddy, who was in Kozhikode for an award function, expressed his wish for an immediate change and demanded that AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi should replace his mother, Sonia Gandhi.

“Ms Gandhi should shoulder the responsibilities of the loss the party faced, as the leadership claimed their share in the victories. Mr Gandhi can not be blamed for the recent losses the party faced, as he doesn’t have an independent charge and has to consult the party president on each and every issue. Let him take over and be given an opportunity to show his leadership skills,” Mr Reddy said, calling for democratic elections.
