HYDERABAD: Manthani legislator D. Sridhar Babu, credited with having played his role in the victory of Congress in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region as an AICC in-charge, said on Sunday that opinions of each MLA are being sought to zero in on the state’s next chief minister.

Reacting to media queries, on how quickly the candidate is likely to be announced, the Congress leader said “We are seeking opinions of the elected representatives. Our senior leaders, who have come from Delhi, will decide by an early date.  Sending the name to the high command is only a formality,” he said.

Asked if the victory in Karnataka had given the Congress party renewed enthusiasm, he said, “All senior leaders and lower-rung cadre down to the booth-level fought to come to power. As we exposed the failures of the BJP, people believed us and gave us the mandate.”

Karnataka has taught us how to take the party forward together with collective leadership, he added.

“There are differences of opinion in the Telangana Congress but we will fight together and Karnataka is the model for that. The legislators will decide and the high command will be apprised of their opinion before the final decision is taken,” the Congress observer said.

The party won 26 out of the 41 assembly seats in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region. Sridhar Babu was camping in Karnataka when the results were out.
