Some members said that certain Congress leaders were particular in targeting Mr Mani, said sources.
Kottayam: The Kerala Congress (M) leaders have criticised the Congress leaders for isolating KC(M) chairman K.M. Mani in the bar bribery case. The leaders, who attended the steering committee meeting here on Tuesday, felt that that the Congress was trying to destroy the KC (M). Some members said that certain Congress leaders were particular in targeting Mr Mani, said sources.
The committee said that senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha deputy chairman P.J. Kurian was responsible for the defeat of KC (M) candidate Joseph M. Puthussery in Thiruvalla. On the eve of the Assembly elections, Mr Kurian had opposed fielding Mr Puthusserry creating confusion within the UDF.
Though Mr Kurian withdrew his comments later, he could stir up anti-Puthusserry feelings in Thiruvalla. The meeting also discussed the defeat of the party candidates in Irinjalakuda, Poonjar, Kothamangalam and Kuttanad.
