Jagan's decision to give full rights to 15.2 lakh farmers over assigned land

VIJAYAWADA: AP revenue minister Dharmana Prasada Rao said the decision of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to give full rights to farmers of assigned lands will benefit 15.21 lakh farmers in 26 districts of the state. The decision will lift the existing restrictions on 27.41 lakh acres of land.

Prasada Rao said before and after independence, 33,29,000 acres of assigned lands had been distributed to 19,21,000 people in the state. Among these, 15,21,000 people received 27,41,000 acres. Jagan Mohan Reddy's government has decided to amend the Prohibition of Transfer Act 1977 so that all these farmers get ownership rights on their lands.

The minister underlined that this decision of the government will further contribute 2 per cent to the state's GDP. He asked people to bring to the notice of the revenue department instances of assigned lands sold to others. He said such transactions are invalid and those lands will have to be returned to the original assignees.

Prasada Rao said all records related to lands are being completely updated. After the land survey started, 19 lakh mutations have been carried out. 2.2 lakh acres of dotted lands have been removed from the 22-A list and handed over to the respective farmers.

The minister said conditional land pattas have been distributed to 35 lakh people involving 33,428 acres of land. This will enable people to sell such lands after 10 years.

Regarding Inam lands, Prasada Rao pointed out that 1. 61 lakh acres of such lands have been removed from the 22-A list. This has benefitted 13 lakh people. Further, he said 9,600 acres of Lanka lands have been stabilised and pattas distributed.
