Congress plans to pick candidates
HYDERABAD: The Congress screening committee, constituted to pick candidates for the Assembly polls, drafted modalities for the purpose at its meeting in Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, said TPCC working president Mahesh Kumar Goud.
The committee consisting of K. Muralidharan, MP from Kerala, Maharashtra MLA Baba Siddique and Jignesh Mewani, MLA from Vadgam in Gujarat, met under the leadership of TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy. It discussed the modalities and the fee payable by prospective candidates and decided to constitute a sub-committee.
The sub-committee headed by Damodara Raja Narasimha will have Rohit Chowdhary and Mahesh Goud as members. The modalities will be decided on August 17 and aspirants can apply between August 18 and 25, he said.
Mahesh Goud said, “The election committee will meet in September, examine the applications and then send them to the pradesh election committee. They will then go to the screening committee.” He said tickets will be given on the basis of surveys and after studying other factors. The lists will be sent to the PEC, the screening committee and then to the central election committee and finally the Congress Working Committee. The list will be announced in September, he added.
