Minister rakes up controversy with his 'encounter' statement
Malla Reddy justified his remark, saying the accused deserved death for raping and murdering a six-year-old
Hyderabad: Labour minister Ch Malla Reddy on Tuesday stirred a controversy by stating that the state government would “encounter” the accused in the September 9 rape and murder of a six-year-old girl in the Old City.
He said the government will catch the accused, named by the police as Pallakonda Raju, soon and kill him in an encounter.
Malla Reddy's reaction came a day after TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy demanded that the government kill the accused in an encounter. Revanth Reddy made these comments while speaking to media personnel during the party's organisational restructuring programme in Medchal-Malkajgiri on Tuesday.
Speaking to this newspaper, Malla Reddy justified his remark, saying the accused deserved death for raping and murdering a six-year-old.
"What's wrong with my statement? Revanth Reddy also made the same demand. Who will tolerate such a ghastly act of raping six-year old girl? The police are on the hunt and the accused will be caught very soon. All are demanding encounter of the accused," Malla Reddy said.
He said TRS leaders met the victim's family members and consoled them and rubbished Opposition parties criticism in this regard. He said the government will pay compensation for the victim's family.
