Kothagudem: Another two revenue divisions will be coming up in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district. The state government, which decided to carve out two divisions to the existing two, asked the district collector to send proposals for forming the Yellandu and Manuguru divisions.

The two revenue divisions in the district are Kothagudem and Bhadrachalam. The erstwhile Palwancha division was cancelled while the new districts were formed. The Bhadradri-Kothagudem district had the most adivasi population and the district was full of reserve forest.

The adivasis were demanding that the government create two new revenue divisions and three new mandals like Bodu, Mondikunta and Komararam. Pinapaka MLA and government chief whip Rega Kantha Rao has convinced the government for creation of the two revenue divisions to facilitate the launch of the Bhadradri Power Project, an open cast mine and irrigation projects in Manuguru. The call for Manuguru revenue division thus picked up momentum.

The Manuguru town is expanding in size and various new colonies are coming up. Rega Kantha Rao said, “The new revenue divisions are the need of the hour, keeping in mind the presence of the adivasi population. The dream of Manugur as a new division will be realized soon.”

Many mandals and villages are far away from their respective revenue divisions and it is difficult for them to come to these places to push files. Yellandu, where coal was found, has a strong adivasi population. The people want to create a new revenue division in the name of Yellandu, it was noted.

It is recalled that an all-party committee was formed to press for grant of the Yellandu division. Former MLA Gummadi Narasaiah said the division could have been formed along with new districts but the government did not care for the voice of the people then.

There is a need for the authorities in the new revenue division to acquire lands for the coal and irrigation projects. The government feels the process can be speeded up if there are two more revenue divisions. District revenue officer Ashok Chakravarthy said his department has already sent proposals to the government and would carve out the new divisions after it gets a green signal from higher authorities.
