MK Stalin raises doubts on CM's statement
In a statement, Stalin said poor and middle class people were suffering by standing in long queues in front of banks.
Chennai: Leader of opposition M.K. Stalin on Monday raised doubts over Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa’s statement appealing to people in Aravakurichi, Thanjavur and Thirupprankundram to vote for her party.
Asking whether the statement on her name is a weapon used by people behind the scene for an AIADMK victory, Stalin said if it is a statement issued by her, it showed that the Chief Minister is not worried about the plight of people hit by cash crunch.
“The Chief Minister has not spoken about the sufferings of the people caused by the demonetisations of currency notes. She has only sought votes from people in the three constituencies. Why has the Chief Minister not spoken about the sufferings of people if she had issued the statement?” he asked.
In a statement, Stalin said poor and middle class people were suffering by standing in long queues in front of banks. “Even after getting the new Rs 2,000 note, it is as well not having any money as the currency could not be exchanged due to shortage of currencies in lower denominations,” he said.
“Many are not able to purchase rice, milk and other essential commodities due to the demonetisation. When the Chief Minister states that she is for the people, but she had not mentioned anything about people’s sufferings in her statement,” the DMK treasurer said.
Citing the AIADMK leader’s statement that it was a re-birth for her, Stalin recalled that he had visited the Apollo Hospitals and enquired about her health and wished her full recovery.
The statement did not contain any announcement to mitigate the sufferings of people or a consolation for the public. He also alleged efforts were made to divert the attention of AIADMK cadre, if the statement had been issued on Jayalalithaa’s name.
