Chennai: BJP national secretary H. Raja on Tuesday made a strong plea for “liberating temples from the clutches of the government” and claimed that several ancient temples were being demolished.

The senior leader who endorsed party MP Dr. Subramanian Swamy who seeks to quash all state Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR & CE) laws through legal intervention, said in a tweet, “temples should be liberated from the clutches of governments. In Tamil Nadu even 1000 years old temples are demolished.”

He was reacting to senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy’s post: “SC bench of Justices Arun Mishra & Gowda today allowed me to file a WP for quashing all State HR & CE temple laws as unconstitutional. Great!”

In yet another tweet on Tuesday, Mr. Raja, who is known for his controversial remarks including his recent comments on actor Vijay’s film Mersal, came down heavily on State health minister C. Vijayabaskar, for the latter’s reported remarks praising Christian schools. In a tweet in Tamil, Mr. Raja said, “Conversion business should be banned. It’s a national threat.” he said in another tweet.
